“The bar at Hotel Gut Ising used to be a stable and dates back to the 16th century. With so much history, it’s not just about a chic bar interior, you also have to pay attention to the building,” explains Katja Scharnagel, Head of Hospitality Innovation.
The bar and café on Lake Chiemsee has been around for a while. The hotel manager of Gut Ising manages a centuries-old family estate: a hotel complex, a restaurant, horse facilities, a tennis club, a wellness area… and… and…
He met Katja, who is responsible for hotel and restaurant concepts at our company, at the leading trade fair for gastronomy “Alles für den Gast”. After a brief conversation, they agreed: “We’ll do it!” One day later, Katja drove to the estate on the north-eastern shore of Lake Chiemsee and visited the bar in the historic building ensemble. Bar furnishings can be so spontaneous!
“The idea for the design came about over the Christmas period and was commissioned in February, shortly afterwards the digger arrived – the hotel bar was ready in April,” says Katja. Planning, concept, design and the entire interior fit-out of the bar took place within just a few weeks.
The cross vault of the bar is still reminiscent of the former stables. Indirect lighting lifts the ceiling like a sky of light above the action. The wood paneling made of stained oak and the parquet flooring are reminiscent of the old craftsmanship of the castles of the same year – but were newly manufactured. Here, the room has been given back its history through design.
The conversion has made the 130 square meter space more functional and created 20 additional seats for guests. The bar is very popular during the day and the occasional party is also held in the evening. This calls for flexible catering equipment: the entire bar furnishings can be moved flexibly. The centerpiece of the bar furnishings is the bar counter. From the comfortable retro-style bar stools to the supple leather table edge, all the materials here are conducive to lingering.
On the Monday after the bar’s soft opening, the phone rang. The man on the other end: “I was in the bar on Saturday. I need to get to know it.” This is how new projects are created for our interior designers!
