Thirteen Knobis are celebrating their anniversaries this year. “Unlike in previous years, that’s significantly fewer, but even so, their combined service totals 250 years,” said our Managing Director, Jürgen Zahn, in his speech. KNOBLAUCH is very grateful for this loyalty! Incidentally, Jürgen himself is among those celebrating their anniversaries – as are Wolfgang Müller, Head of Projects, and Bernhard Bröggelhoff from Research & Development. All three are celebrating their 25th anniversary with the company this year. An interview.
Off the top of my head, one thing springs to mind above all else: Konni Knoblauch’s boundless trust! I’m very happy to be able to work and make a difference here as part of a team.
My first day was in March 2000. I still remember it well. The office looked completely different back then compared to today. Everything was much more manageable – and somehow more personal too. As far as I can remember, I was the fourth person in project management. Back then, project management, design and procurement were still combined into a single role. We basically did everything ourselves.
The desks were huge – mainly because of the large monitors, which took up a lot of space. I was given a filing box to keep track of my contacts … to be filled in by hand, of course. And I think there was just one single email address for everyone. When I think back on it, it’s impressive just how much everything has developed.
My first day was actually earlier than that. I was in the workshop – over 30 years ago now – and Konni (our founder, Konrad Knoblauch; editor’s note) wasn’t there, so the works manager at the time handed me a job: “Here, have a read through this; the materials are in the storeroom. See you at lunchtime. I’ve got to get to the building site now’ – onboarding – the word didn’t even exist back then – I don’t think it did in English either.
Then, in May 2000, came my first day in the office after 1½ years away from KNOBLAUCH. Konni wasn’t there; Zahni just said: ‘Here, this is your office – I’ve got to go…’ And off he went.
In the workshop, there were 20 joiners who now wanted to be looked after by their former colleague. There’d been no handover from my predecessor – after all, he’d already been gone for a month. That was quite a breath of fresh air……and ‘onboarding’ still hadn’t been invented.
Was mich besonders beeindruckt hat: Jeder Einzelne konnte seinen Beitrag leisten.
Berni: The opportunities lie in change—specifically, in adapting to circumstances and in the perpetual pursuit of the unknown, thereby staying one small step ahead. Here’s to the next 25 years—oops, I suppose there won’t be quite that many left for me personally. But for KNOBLAUCH? Most certainly!
In addition to this trio, eleven other employees from various departments were honored for their loyalty at the anniversary celebration in early March! Their tenures ranged from ten to 30 years.
The speeches honoring Jürgen were particularly moving; he has shaped and molded the company like no other since Konni’s passing. “You have always known how to inspire, nurture, and support people. You have always had—and continue to have—an open ear. Many of us have grown because of you, both professionally and personally,” said Managing Director Klaus Hummel. “Thank you for everything you have made possible for us. We are grateful and proud to walk this path alongside you. After all, without your vision and your passion, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
Here’s to another 25 years!
