Hospitality design & hotel interior fit-out

Hospitality is all in the details. And spaces play a key role in this. They need to make an impact and be practical. This is precisely where we at KNOBLAUCH come in. For over 30 years, we have been combining interior design and fit-out services across the DACH region. We approach every project from every angle. The result is spaces where guests and staff alike feel welcome.

A hotel as a place of longing. And interiors that linger in the memory.

When does a place to stay become a destination people long to visit? A lovely room on its own isn’t enough. It’s all about the interplay of many small experiences: the initial welcome, the hassle-free check-in and rooms where everything simply works. In the end, it’s often the little details that stick in the memory and make you want to come back. A good establishment surprises guests with its own unique style and creates an experience that’s perfectly tailored to them.

A main contractor. From the lobby to the spa.

What story does your property tell? What does it stand for? And which guests should it appeal to? Every project has different requirements. That is why we start by listening and taking a comprehensive look at everything – from the structural conditions right through to the functional and technical requirements.

In doing so, we also consider the starting point. Has an existing hotel been taken over? Is a generational handover imminent? Or is it part of a hotel chain? In the latter case, the requirements of the relevant brand standards must also be taken into account. As a general rule, even if only a part of the space is planned initially, we keep the bigger picture in mind. This is how we create bespoke concepts for redesigns or refurbishments.

Four steps to bespoke interior design.
01
Concept & Storytelling
We always start by asking ourselves what makes your hotel special and what story lies behind it. After all, a chalet in the mountains tells a different story to a city hotel in a metropolis. That said, the story doesn’t have to be told in a flashy way. It is precisely individual and luxurious concepts that often emerge from the sum of small details – through materials, colours, proportions and elements that guests might only notice at second glance. Drawing on the region, the brand and the expectations of the target audience, we develop concepts with their own distinct identity that blend naturally into their surroundings.
02
Design & Planning
Once the concept is in place, it takes shape. During the design phase, we translate the developed idea into detailed drawings and bring spaces, materials and proportions to life for you even before implementation begins. At the same time, our project management team begins planning the implementation. Our interdisciplinary team of interior designers, architects, structural engineers, procurement specialists and project managers work closely together, transforming the design phase step by step into precise construction plans. This ensures that everyone involved has a clear basis for the project’s progress right from the start.
03
High-quality execution
Good hotel concepts are recognised by the details – by the quality of the craftsmanship, the furniture and the care with which everything has been executed. In our in-house production facility, which includes a joinery workshop, our team works on bespoke furniture production, and together with our fitters, we deliver bespoke interior fittings down to the very last detail.

We ensure that the design concept is faithfully realised – from the reception desk made from high-quality materials right down to the very last socket in the suite. To this end, we take care of commissioning and coordinating the various trades, always keeping a close eye on the schedule and budget.
04
Handover & Operation
Running a hotel does not begin on the day of the opening, but in the weeks leading up to it. We coordinate schedules and procedures so that housekeeping, the front office and service staff can familiarise themselves with their roles in good time. Adherence to deadlines and clear communication are particularly important in this regard. When we carry out refurbishment work whilst the hotel is open, we work in phases to minimise disruption.
“Interior design really comes into its own when design and execution work in harmony. Through a holistic approach and transparent processes.”

The bedroom as a place of retreat

It is often the little things that create a sense of well-being. A clean, white bed. Freshness and tidiness. A room where you immediately know where your belongings belong. With independent hotels, the focus is usually even more on discovery. A special balcony, a cosy seating nook or a warm welcome can make all the difference. The key is always the combination of functionality and comfort. The space must be practical whilst also creating a place where guests can unwind and feel at ease.

Gastronomy with a personal touch

A restaurant with character isn’t created by beautiful furniture alone. It requires a distinct ethos and an atmosphere that complements the overall experience. That is why we do not view the hotel restaurant in isolation. Lighting, materials, acoustics, furnishings and layout must all work together. Only then can a space be created that not only looks appealing but also functions effectively in day-to-day operations.

What good hotel reviews have in common today

Serviced apartments and Airbnbs are increasingly competing with hotels, often at a lower price. It’s no wonder that guests today compare options more carefully than ever before. A look at successful examples shows that good hotels almost always have one thing in common: a clear, distinctive identity. This is about more than just aesthetics; it’s about a concept that is reflected in every detail, from the reception to the bathroom. That is precisely what sticks in guests’ minds. And it can help ensure they return.

An innovative partner for architects

Architecturally brilliant hotel designs deserve to be executed to perfection. That is why, for many years now, we have been partnering with architectural practices whenever required. Whilst the architects take care of the design of the building envelope, we handle the interior design, the selection of materials, the manufacture of furniture and coordinate the implementation on site.

This collaboration works both ways. Either we actively approach architectural practices, or they come to us with their plans. Good projects emerge when each side contributes its own expertise. Together, we develop expertise for the project as a whole. This results in solutions where the exterior and interior complement each other – competently, transparently and reliably.
