Bayerstraße 47, right next to Munich Central Station. A Fleming’s Hotel used to stand here. Now, the city’s first The Cloud One is located here. In between, there were about ten weeks of construction and several firsts.
Up until now, at Motel One, we’ve mainly done redesigns: renovating existing Motel One properties. In Munich, it was different. We didn’t do a redesign—we did a rebranding. The difference: Before the renovation, this wasn’t a Motel One property—it was a Fleming’s Hotel. Fleming’s remains the owner, but the property is now operated by Motel One. Until now, Motel One has consistently owned its own properties—whether new construction or redesigns—with a uniform, distinctive layout. The Fleming’s property was originally built for a different operator and therefore has a different structure. We transformed this property into The Cloud One. Bayerstraße 47, right next to Munich Central Station. A Fleming’s Hotel used to stand here. Now it’s home to the city’s first The Cloud One. In between, there were about ten weeks of construction and several firsts.
And then there’s this: for the first time, we’ve built a The Cloud One rather than a Motel One. The difference lies in a higher-quality design. You can see it in the rooms: green headboards, orange wall lamps, mustard-yellow curtains, and wall patterns in earthy tones. Added to this are granite bathrooms with rain showers, with room sizes ranging from 9 square metres for solo travellers to 45 square metres in the suite.
Work began at the end of June. The rooms were completed in August, and the lobby in September. 112 rooms and a lobby measuring approximately 445 square metres. With a ReFlag project, time is not a buffer but a deadline. That’s why we handled everything in-house: general contracting, interior fit-out, furniture production, furnishing and installation. The rest is a matter of project management and networking.
The lobby is the heart of every hotel. At Cloud One Munich, it welcomes guests with a reception desk set against a textured wall, whilst round, reflective elements hang from the ceiling. This includes the One Lounge with a bar and a wide selection of drinks and snacks. Warm lighting, bar stools with yellow-and-white patterned upholstery, and illuminated shelves.
We share a common understanding of design and storytelling with Motel One. We transform existing designs into unique interiors and find solutions where others have long since given up. When it comes to hotel projects, reliability in terms of time, budget and quality is paramount.
The hotel’s website says ‘Newly opened!’. We’d add: Built with KNOBLAUCH.
