It sits enthroned in the middle of Egg in the Bregenzerwald. The new Posthus. A strong, point-shaped structure with a hipped roof, according to the architects Ludescher + Lutz. A new focal point in the town center that is more than just a building. Offices, apartments – and there is even cooking on the first floor. We were asked to create a design for the „Sarah kocht“ restaurant that is just as innovative as the crossover cuisine served there.
The new Posthus was built on the site of the old post office, which was acquired by Sparkasse Egg, the municipality and real estate project developers from Dornbirn with their joint company. The gastro design focused on the reference to the original use of the site.
Architectural details such as the grid structure of the former post boxes are revived thanks to the room dividers and wine racks. The room dividers in mailbox design also create cozy niches and serve as a checkroom at the same time.
The counter with bronze-look base units is reminiscent of the former post office counter – except that now it’s not letters but fine wines and culinary delicacies that pass over the counter. Golden tiles and filigree expanded metal set special accents, reminiscent of the splendor of the historic post office.
The concept is characterized by wooden elements made from local silver fir and spruce as well as an earthy colour palette, which provides a warm contrast to the modern exposed concrete. The seats are arranged in a U-shape around the large counter. The alternative seating makes the Posthus flexible and versatile in its seating options.
From cozy chairs made of Viennese wickerwork to wooden bar stools and cozy corner benches and seating niches, there is a suitable spot for every guest. The ingenious seating concept has created space for 81 seats and 18 seats at the bar.
The old Posthus once stood for communication and connection – and the new Posthus is also a place that brings people together, stimulates conversation and creates new connections. With good food and a very special feel-good atmosphere.
