With the opening of the new flagship store in Hamburg, mey is also bringing a new shopfitting system to the area. To this end, we further developed the store design for mey that we had already created three years ago for the mes amis multi-label stores. “The aim was to create a cost-attractive offering for our customer that doesn’t lose any of its value,” explains Birgit Römer, Head of Brand Planning, who looks after serial customers.
We have revised the color concept for this. The former rosé tone has been transformed into modern cognac, complemented by elegant green tones and creating a real feel-good atmosphere. “The flagship store was also zoned in terms of color,” explains interior designer Theresa Scholz. The checkout area, for example, looks particularly elegant in dark green. A special feature of the 167 square meter flagship area of the mey store in Hamburg’s city center in the immediate vicinity of Jungfernstieg is the coffee lounge with high-quality velvety seating furniture on the first floor.

Anyone who wants to buy women’s and men’s underwear, lingerie and loungewear here will find an intimate yet sophisticated shopping experience in a harmonious yet exciting atmosphere. The mey range is complemented by partner brands such as Simone Pérèle, Pain de Sucre, Watercult, Maryan Mehlhorn and MyMarini as well as natural cosmetics from GreenGlam and stylish accessories.
Everything is presented with the help of a high-quality shopfitting system that is flexible and modular. The advantages are obvious: it can be rolled out comparatively inexpensively and sustainably in other existing areas.
“Many brands are faced with the problem that they don’t even know whether and where they should invest in shop-in-shop spaces in the current situation,” explains Birgit. Due to the various insolvencies in department stores, there is a reluctance to invest. “The solution is therefore shopfitting systems that are as easy to dismantle as possible and can be used flexibly,” says Birgit.
And we were able to develop and build just such a system for mey. The basic elements consist of a lightweight rod system made of powder-coated metal that is secured purely to the floor – and does not require any reinforcement with drywall elements on the wall. This saves material and construction time – and therefore massive costs.
It is also sustainable, partly because the delivery costs are massively reduced due to the light weight. The bar elements are complemented by open wooden cubes with shelves that customers can look through themselves.
The rebranded store design and the new shopfitting system will be used in the new mey store in Kaiser-Joseph-Straße in Freiburg and in the new mes amis store in Deggendorf.
“Knoblauch has been our permanent partner for many years, and our trusting collaboration is based on shared values such as family business, sustainability, regionality and deep roots in our respective home countries. These values are reflected in our projects and strengthen our close relationship. Together, we have already realized numerous successful projects at home and abroad,” emphasizes Matthias Mey.
