The Roland Erdrich company, based in Oppenau, describes itself as “Your family for precision”. This is a claim that is reflected not only in its metal machining but also in its corporate philosophy.

More than just an employer

Located in the heart of the Northern Black Forest, this family-run business aims to be more than just an employer to its staff. When constructing the new administration building, it was therefore important to the Erdrich family to create an atmosphere in which employees feel comfortable and valued.

It is precisely these kinds of projects that inspire us. That’s why we were absolutely thrilled when Ken Erdrich approached us with the request to take on the design of the meeting rooms, offices and canteen.

The best ideas don’t always come about in meetings

It was particularly important to Roland Erdrich GmbH to facilitate knowledge transfer and collaboration with the production team in the new building. To this end, communication zones were deliberately placed at the heart of the building. After all, the best ideas often don’t come about in meetings, but during casual chats in the corridor.

Various communication zones in the centre of the building thus ensure productivity and creativity and foster a vibrant corporate culture. The canteen is also a popular meeting place for both administrative and production staff alike.

Another small highlight that demonstrates just how much Erdrich GmbH prioritises its staff is the gym with its exercise studio. Work-life integration is not just a buzzword here, but a reality in practice.

“The way I design the office helps to make it more appealing to various target groups.”

Working with a view of the Black Forest peaks

In close consultation with the architect, the building’s core was deliberately shifted from the centre to the rear of the new building. This has created more spacious layouts that encourage focused work, as there are no direct walkways passing by the desks. Instead, staff enjoy an unobstructed view of the deep, dark green of the Black Forest peaks.

Look & Feel brings corporate values together

When it came to the Look & Feel, the aim was to bring together two core values: tradition and precision – deeply rooted in the corporate culture – and a warm, family-like atmosphere. The design is characterised by an abundance of greenery as a tribute to nature, complemented by perforated metal panels and metal curtains that reflect the highly process-oriented nature of milling and turning.

“The interplay between functionality and aesthetics was important to the client,” says Josephine. The result: an administrative building that is a real ‘place to be’ – a place where precision meets well-being.
