A luxury family hotel set amid picturesque Alpine scenery, the desire for a new hotel shop, a breath of fresh air for the guest lounge, a new area for staff and a new buffet – this is how our work at Familux Resort Dachsteinkönig in Gosau could be described in a nutshell.

Ein Shop im Hotel

The project: A shop in a hotel

In Gosau, located in the Austrian skiing and hiking region of Dachstein, we were able to contribute our expertise in retail, hospitality, and office projects. The core project was the new hotel shop “Lila Loves.” A marketing agency developed a story for the mascot of the Familux hotel chain, a little lynx named Lila Lux: Lila travels around the world in a hot air balloon and makes lots of new friends. Our interior designer Michael David developed the store concept based on this story.

Ein Shop im Hotel

“The ceiling is an architectural element that offers a lot of design freedom because you can’t display goods here.”

Michael David, interior designer

The store design

  • Ceiling is opened up as a central design element
  • Open and airy feeling of space
  • Mini hot air balloon as an eye-catcher in the room
  • Airy, light decorative elements such as a butterfly installation
  • Mirrors create the illusion of more space
  • Subtle reference to the alpine backdrop of the Dachstein Mountains
  • Indirectly lit caves for product presentation
  • Tree trunks serve as supports for product tables
  • Attached soft ice cream station for children ensures greater visibility

Cozy lounge for guests

We redesigned the hotel’s 200-square-meter lounge with the “Milchbar.” Here, guests can take a short break after their activities, enjoy cold and hot drinks around the clock, and refuel with snacks in the afternoon.

The centerpiece consists of two C-shaped counter elements. Mountain panorama silhouettes made of black sheet metal separate the inner and outer counter areas: this is where contemporary and functional design meets alpine comfort.

Invisible doors and illuminated milk cans

We have made the doors in the lower section virtually invisible through the clever selection of materials, so that the eye is drawn to the countertop surface made of robust, elegant natural stone. Because a milk bar naturally needs authentic milk cans, we have incorporated an existing ceiling installation consisting of cans, some of which are lights. Not only does this integrate perfectly into the new design, it is also sustainable. Our long-standing partner FHE Gastro from Dornbirn provided the necessary hardware – modern counter technology.

Designing the break area for employees

  • Structural expansion and open design for improved quality of stay
  • Alpine-style lounge given a modern twist
  • Large wooden table serves as a meeting point in the room
  • Black cube creates an industrial atmosphere
  • Organoid natural wallpaper featuring grass and moss brings the idyllic nature of the
  • Dachstein Mountains into the employee area
  • New drinks counter for employees
  • New meeting rooms
