Breuninger is setting new standards with its Department Store in Hamburg’s new luxury shopping destination, Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier. And us? We were able to take on a really strong role in the furnishing – with a lot of passion, attention to detail and stamina. Because this project was not for the faint-hearted!

Our task? To furnish selected areas of the approximately 13,000 square meters of retail space. In concrete terms: shop windows, wall panels, middle room furniture and the cabin wings – all built and implemented individually, to a high standard and with great sensitivity. Our production in Markdorf ran at full speed to provide Breuninger with the perfect backdrop for fashion and lifestyle.

A lot of tinkering and meticulousness

But it wasn’t just the craftsmanship that made this project special. “We worked out and developed many details,” explains project manager Sophia Ziegler, who spent months working on the Breuninger space with a large project team. And they did so with impressive meticulousness: after all, the project required special materials and surface techniques, such as a rust look. Testing, comparisons, but also a lot of coordination and sampling with the architects from Architects from DITTEL were required.

Construction project with obstacles

It is almost in the nature of things that not everything runs smoothly in one of the largest construction projects in Hamburg’s HafenCity (the site has a total of 14 buildings and an area of more than 500,000 square meters). But, as the media reported, this construction site was a real adventure.

Construction dragged on for months, with defects and delays throwing the original schedule out of kilter. Originally planned for spring 2024, the luxury shopping center will now only open on 8 April 2025. In the meantime, there have been real mud fights on the construction site – in the truest sense of the word. “We delivered some of the furniture over 30-centimeter-wide wooden planks because the puddles on the construction site were so big,” Sophia recalls.

Team spirit counts!

But this is exactly where our added value is evident: we stuck together as a team, supported each other and mastered the challenges. Always with the goal of achieving an outstanding result in mind. And yes, it was exhausting. But it was worth it! “We are simply so grateful that we were able to bring Breuninger to such a great conclusion together despite the adverse circumstances,” says Sophia.
